My only experience with refinishing furniture is to sand it down and then stain it. Then a coat of something like polyetheline (I think? Spelling?) to make it shiny and smooth.
whatever is easiest! You have that to paint, recover chairs and to paint the tv hutch! If you painted it the same as the hutch you could probably save some time and trouble and money on paint. Good luck!

Not gell stain because of the fingerprints. If you paint with a good layer of finish it should be good.
